Autism Day

On Friday April 27th, our school held Autism Day. Throughout the day we spoke to students about Autism. Younger children don't understand what Autism is. They thought that people with Autism have problems, but they didn't know the causes of it. They learned many things. The underclassmen didn't know that Autism is more likely in boys than girls. That there are more people living with Autism than cancer, AIDS and diabetes combined? That autism occurs in every 1 in 88 children. After 2 weeks of preparation for Autism Day we rewarded the student with a blue dress down day. After all our hard work I'm glad that Autism Day was successful. We're not done yet though. We will be meeting with our school Daisy troops in the upcoming weeks. Check back soon!

Autism Awareness Month

As most people know, the month of April is Autism Awareness Month. What is autism? Autism is a developmental disorder that affects the child in the first three years of life. Autism affects the brain's ability to develop social and communication skills. Throughout the month of April, myself, Alexa, amd Mikayla are raising awareness throughout our school. The three of us are the Giving Angels. We're three teenage girls striving to raise awareness to children about this common neourological disorder. Alexa's twin brother, RJ, was diagnosed with autism at the age of two. We will be posting blog posts throughout this project. Caroline Sources: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0002494/
